One Apple Everyday For A Year for Ankylosing Spondylitis
”Let’s begin by taking a smallish nap or two.”
-Winnie the Pooh
Poor Pooh has been lost in the Harry Potter buzz. I adore Winnie The Pooh. Ok, so who doesn’t?
There is a new Disney animated film about the Hundred Acre Woods with the whole cast of characters – Pooh, Piglet, Rabbit, Owl, Kanga & Roo, Eeyore, and TIGGER! I cannot wait to see it and get lost for a couple of hours in my childhood.
I also loved the book The Tao of Pooh – I think it would be a great time to re-read it. The book uses Pooh’s natural optimism and outlook to teach Taoism which is a way of appreciating and learning from whatever happens in everyday life. Get stuck in the door to your home, no problem, sit back and enjoy the time with a friend as you wait patiently to lose a few pounds. No need to panic, it will all sort out in time. Live in the present for heaven’s sake!
I didn’t sleep but a wink last night and my weary AS body needed a smallish nap or two today – and since Pooh begins most tasks in life with naps – how bad can they be?
Until tomorrow.

If you can learn from hard knocks, you can also learn from soft touches. – Carolyn Kenmore
I love painting with over the top color – except of course, for those times I crave painting softly.
When painting softly remember – carry a BIG paintbrush – just in case.
Until tomorrow.

A small key opens big doors. – Turkish Proverb
Choose to do something that means something to you. Choose to find a place for your energies and your passions. It isn’t about finding the right idea or the right cause or the right job. It is about unlocking a door and stepping past the threshold – that is the biggest step.
When you choose and take action it will open amazing new paths in your life. Have faith that you hold the key. It may feel small and inconsequential but it also holds the promise of very big and wonderful things.
Until tomorrow.

You’ve got to get to the stage in life where going for it is more important than winning or losing. – Arthur Ashe
I have never been a very good team competitor or sports fan for that matter. I enjoy the game, the athleticism and the dedication it takes to be really good at something – especially something physical but I don’t get too caught up in who wins or loses.
Don’t get me wrong – I have fun watching a great play, I get caught up in the excitement of playoff games and I love the strategy. I just don’t let a win or loss affect me. What I appreciate most is the going for it – no matter if it is sports, business, or love.
Congratulations to USA Woman’s Soccer!
Great effort, great accomplishment to be in the world cup finals!
Until tomorrow.

*** Thank you to Grace McKee for a great idea for today’s apple!
July is national watermelon month!
Did you know that?
I didn’t either until I decided to create an apple that looked like a watermelon. In fact there are artists who sculpt amazing creations using only watermelon.
I love watermelon almost as much as I love apples!
Until tomorrow.

My apple was finished and scanned and ready to go – hours ago!
I’ve been completely stuck on what to write about today. I’ve just spent the last five days with family in an amazing place and I’ve talked and talked about how happy that makes me so I’ve been sitting here thinking about what to write about that would be a change of pace. And, I’ve got nothing.
No insightful quotes, not cute anecdotes on life, and no new inspirations. I’m simply happy and full.
Until tomorrow.

Five years ago my parents decided to buy a big old Mansard Roof Victorian home on Vinalhaven, Maine. The home sits a tenth of a mile above and behind the town and harbor. You can see the island of Matinicus from the third floor window on a crystal clear day.
The 100’ of shore footage are on Carver’s Pond (it’s actually a tidal inlet that doesn’t have boat access to the harbor – unless you count the few times my Dad, nephew Jarod, and Allen have waited for the tide to move the boat dingy through the granite shoot that goes under Main Street.) Apparently not an experience you want to undertake all too often or lightly and most definitely only during the exact right time of the tide unless you are looking for a water adventure that includes not only ooey gooey seaweed, an abundance of barnacles, but also a complete uncertainty of whether or not the rule of twelves will push you under the bridge at such velocity that a mere man has no control of this force of nature.
The dingy has made one round trip and now lives up on the bank of the pond where I have a feeling it will remain for all eternity.
Until tomorrow.

Update – I just found out the dingy lives and was put into service again this summer!
In the Dye household we take our lobster very seriously especially lobster feasts when the entire family comes together. Our lobster is boiled not steamed in sea water and for an exact thirteen and a half minutes. We’ve got soft shells tonight which will make for quick eating. We all have our favorite ways to dig into them. I love pulling out all the meat and dumping it into my butter and then eating piece after piece – ummmmm!
The water’s boiling.
Until tomorrow.
