Day One Twenty One – January 29, 2011

Looking back 10 years ago today…

I LOVE this apple.

I love it for it’s energy and simplicity. Beginning February 1st there is a one hundred day challenge on Instagram and I am going to attempt 100 quick and gestural images that only take about 10 minutes tops. I’ll post them all in my Instagram and Facebook stories. We’ll see how that goes but in my current work I create with an explosion of bold strokes and over the top color and then lots and lots of little details. I’m excited to do these gestural images to practice dialing it back. We’ll see how it goes but Vera was a pro!

It may not suit me… but as a full time artist I need to continue to stretch myself. I’m also going to do the February “28 Feathered Friends” on Instagram because I need more birds in my life! If you’d like to follow along (it’s going to be a busy month) you can find all my creations on my Instagram account!

Yesterday, I shared this photo of me in my studio. (you understand, I know)

Over the years I stopped doing large pieces on canvas as my AS body didn’t appreciate the leaning over of paintings or how I have to twist around to get paint just where I want it. It’s very physical believe it or not. But, the art was calling… so I’ve started up large canvas again with the help of a neck brace and an SI belt. It helps but a long day like yesterday where I have to add details bent over a table like this causes a lot of pain at the end of the day. I’m sharing this because it’s awareness of the challenges of this disease. It is what it is and I won’t stop painting! Thank goodness for the support of these items and I think today I’ll add some KT tape to the list for the costochondritis that hits my left flank. I’ll let you know how that goes!
