Day One Hundred Twenty – January 28, 2011

Looking back 10 years ago today…

I’m so happy to say that in these past 10 years so much has changed for the good in the realm of disease and disabilities.

Ten years ago people were just starting to speak up about their health challenges. There was a certain coming out aspect to it. I don’t feel that way at this point in time. Do you? I feel so much more accepted when I share about AS and the challenges I deal with. I believe this is thanks to all those amazing health advocates and activists who had the courage to share what they were going through and yell from the rooftops that there needed to be better understanding, access to care, knowledge. I also think at this point with people feeling more comfortable disclosing their health challenges that unfortunately most of us (even the “healthy”) have been impacted by these things in our lives which allows more empathy.

So a big THANK YOU to all who have done the hard work over these last years – you are amazing!
